The Pupil Council
Representatives from each stage meet together with the Head Teacher
to discuss issues on behalf of their classes.
Pupil Council Meeting
12th January 2009
- Internet Games – senior pupils asked whether they were allowed
to access internet based games sites such as “Mini-Clip”
during Golden Time or free time on the computers. Mrs Davidson explained
that whilst there are many great games on sites such as these, they
also contain games which are unsuitable for primary school children.
Aberdeenshire Council’s Web Filter is unable to select specific
games in Mini Clip, so from a welfare point of view Mrs Davidson asked
pupils not to use any internet based games in school other than Education
City. Pupils were in agreement with this and as well as passing the
message on to classmates they also suggested that they could assist
teaching staff by helping to monitor sites being used in class.
- Lunchtime Arrangements – Pupils asked once again if they could
be allowed to choose their own seats in the lunch hall, and have permission
to leave as soon as they have eaten. Mrs Davidson asked what the pupils
thought firstly about noise levels and disruption whenever a seating
plan is not used, and secondly about the potential hazards of being
outside unsupervised. Pupils discussed this at length between themselves
and it was then agreed that the seating plan would be reviewed regularly,
but pupils would wait until everyone was ready to go outside with Mrs
Forman. A new rota for Table Monitors would also be looked at.
- Mrs Davidson suggested another Burns Lunch after last year’s
successful event. Pupils were enthusiastic and asked if it would be
possible to have the Address to the Haggis again and a piper. Pupils
also suggested asking everyone if they would like to perform something
(poetry reading, song or something else with a Scottish theme) which
could provide entertainment. Mrs Davidson agreed to an early lunch,
allowing for a half hour entertainment slot and a piper had already
been approached.
- Younger pupils raised concerns about the safety of school transport
during snowy weather. The main points discussed were the possibility
of the bus getting stuck in snow or skidding on ice. Mrs Davidson explained
the school policy for adverse weather and assured pupils that in the
event of heavy snow or particularly icy conditions she would assess
the situation, speak to the bus company (who would also assess the safety
of the road conditions) and if necessary close the school before the
bus was due to set off.
- Mrs Davidson discussed the current school policy for late arrivals
with pupils, and explained that there would be a new reporting system
in place. Pupils were very supportive of this.
- Pupils discussed the best way to involve everyone in planning for
developing the playing field area. They decided that everyone should
be given a basic plan and asked to draw their ideas onto it. The most
popular ideas should then be identified and put forward. Mrs Davidson
agreed.
Next Meeting to be held on Monday Feb 23rd.
