About Bennachie

Bennachie

This is the best loved and most prominent hill in the Grampian Region, even though the highest of its five summits is only 1,733ft.

In spite of its volcano like shape the Mither Tap has never been a volcano.  Mither Tap is the most prominent summit that can be seen from Chapel of Garioch school.  It is the subject of the photographs on this page. Click here for more information about Mither Tap.

Go for a walk around Bennachie

Bennachie provides a splendid recreational area with numerous hill walks, marked forest trail and picnic sites.  The main walks start from the Donview, Esson's, Rowan Tree and Back O' Bennachie carparks.  The Bennachie Centre is located at Essons, where additional information on the area, its floral and fauna can be found. Visit the Forestry Commission site to find out more.

Or perhaps a run

The Bennachie Hill Race takes place in October.  Starting from the Back O'Bennachie, the 8 mile route takes in 5 summits and 1150ft of ascent are required.

This race is open to runners of all levels, for more information visit the Garioch Road Runners site.

If cycling is more your thing

The Great Inverurie Bike Ride takes place every year.

The 25 mile route takes in the beautiful countryside around Inverurie, including the villages of Chapel of Garioch, Monymusk and Blairdaff. The event starts and finishes in Kellands Park, Inverurie.
